Embracing What’s Hidden: The Transformative Power of Shadow Work

Do you walk around, feeling like you’re wearing a mask? Smiling on the outside, while keeping the things you don’t want people to see well hidden. Maybe you’ve noticed you’re having unexpected bursts of emotion like anger or tears more often, or find you’re stuck repeating the same unhelpful patterns despite your best efforts to change things.

You’re not alone. And there’s a way you can understand these experiences.

Tarot as your mirror

When most people think of tarot readings, they imagine predictions that will answer their burning questions: "When will I meet my soulmate?" or "Will I get that promotion?" But there's a profoundly more powerful approach to reading these ancient cards, one that doesn't simply forecast your future but helps you actively create it.

My shadow work tarot readings don't just tell you what might happen; they reveal what's already happening beneath the surface of your conscious awareness.

As one client shared after a session, "It wasn't like other readings I've had. It was almost like Carrie knew who I was, and we'd never met. It wasn't about meeting a tall, dark stranger, it was about meeting myself."

The shadow self we hide-even from ourselves

The psychologist Carl Jung described our "shadow" as the part of ourselves we've tucked away, the part where we keep the hidden emotions, desires, and traits deemed unacceptable by family, society, or ourselves.

Imagine a seesaw. On one end, there’s your "light" self, the person you present to the world. On the other is your shadow. When we overload one side by ignoring the other, our psychological balance suffers. This can manifest in many ways:

Depression (which Jung described as "anger turned inward")

Sudden emotional outbursts that seem disproportionate

Feeling inexplicably triggered by others' words or actions

A growing sense of inauthenticity or emptiness

Reaching midlife and suddenly questioning everything

The paradox of shadow work

Here's the truth that might seem hard to grasp at first; acknowledging your shadow doesn't make you darker, it makes you whole. When we shine light on the parts we've hidden away, something amazing happens. The energy we once spent on suppressing those hidden parts of ourselves becomes available for creativity, authentic relationships, and genuine joy.

What to expect in a shadow work tarot reading

My readings create a safe space for exploration, where nothing is judged and everything is welcomed with warmth and understanding. Unlike predictive readings that may leave you passively (and obsessively) waiting for events to unfold, our session will:

Identify patterns that have been invisible to you

Connect your present challenges to their deeper roots

Reveal how your shadow is actually trying to help you

Provide practical guidance for integration and healing

Empower you with insights that spark immediate change

Many clients tell me afterward, "I felt like I could be completely open. You brought up things others wouldn't, but not in a bad way—in a way that actually helped me see myself clearly."

In a world filled with pressure to always be positive, hustle harder, and present a perfect image on social media, shadow work offers welcome relief. There's no need to predict a brighter future when you can create one by embracing your whole self. For example, you don’t need someone to tell you if your ex is coming back, you need someone to help you understand what prevented you from being in a happy, healthy relationship in the first place.

A personal invitation

If you've felt drawn to tarot but hoped for something deeper than fortune-telling

If you're tired of wearing masks and you’re ready to live authentically

If you sense there's more to your story than what appears on the surface

Then let’s work together.

My approach isn't about quick fixes or comfortable illusions. It's about genuine transformation through compassionate truth. Because when we have the courage to look at all of ourselves, light and shadow alike, we discover a wholeness more powerful than we ever imagined.
