Hello, Aries: Meet the Zodiac’s Boldest and Most Passionate Sign

The seasons are changing, and this also ushers us into the bold, energetic energy of Aries. Here’s everything you need to know about the sign of the Ram.

Origins and Astronomical Significance

Aries is the first sign of the zodiac, and as it aligns with the vernal equinox, the start of spring in the Northern Hemisphere, it symbolises a time of renewal and new beginnings. Aries is associated with the constellation of the Ram, which is linked to vitality, leadership, and the birth of nature.

Mythology

The mythology of Aries is deeply rooted in ancient Greek tales, and is associated with the story of the Golden Ram. The legend says that Aries represents the sacred ram with a golden fleece that saved a king’s children. The story begins with a king named Athamas, whose second wife, Ino, plotted against the king's children, Phrixus and Helle, from his first marriage. To protect the siblings from her evil plot, a golden-winged ram, sent by their mother, Nephele, was provided by the gods. The ram carried the children away across the sky to safety. However, during their flight, Helle fell into the sea at a location that is now known as the Dardanelles, a strait in northwestern Turkey. Phrixus survived the journey and safely arrived in Colchis (which is now western Georgia). There, in gratitude to the gods, he sacrificed the ram and presented its golden fleece to King Aeëtes, who enshrined it in a sacred grove.

This fleece would later become the object of the famous quest of Jason and the Argonauts. The constellation Aries commemorates the heroic ram and its divine intervention. It was seen as a symbol of bravery, sacrifice, and renewal, qualities often associated with the Aries zodiac sign.

Astrological Significance

People born under the Aries zodiac sign are dynamic, passionate, and full of energy. This is unsurprising, given that Aries is a fire sign, ruled by Mars, which is associated with courage and determination. Aries tends to dive headfirst into challenges and is a natural leader who thrives on setting goals. They also seem to have boundless energy and approach life with an infectious enthusiasm, which inspires others. At times, Aries can be impulsive and while there’s no problem with fast and confident decision-making, sometimes this can lead to errors or excessive risk-taking. Know someone who calls a spade a spade? Who loves to win, no matter whether it’s their career, hobbies, or personal achievements? There’s a good chance they’re an Aries. Those born under this sign tend to be straight shooters who like a bit of healthy competition.

So what about health? Aries is associated with the head, including the brain, face, and upper jaw. As a result, people born under this sign may be more prone to health issues related to this area, such as headaches, migraines, sinus problems, or even facial injuries. Their fiery and energetic nature can sometimes lead them to overexert themselves, which may cause stress-related conditions. The prescription for a health balanced life for Aries is balancing their high-energy lifestyle with periods of rest and self-care.
